Summary of Current Research Interests:
Molecular and cellular mechanisms of antiproliferative agents targeted to human prostate cancer cells such as the estrogenic analogue of diethylstilbestrol (DES) which appears to block the cell cycle and induce apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. The cytotoxic effects of Fenretinite on androgen-independent prostate cancer cells in culture is under investigation, as well as the modulation of the androgen receptor in these cells.
Karyotypic analyses , conducted in collaboration with investigators at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NIH) have revealed in a human transitional bladder carcinoma cell line, isolated and cultured at the Urology Division (Surgery) of Duke Medical Center, the presence of two aneuploid clones with distinct patterns of chromosomal aberrations and deletions previously linked to bladder cancer. Such spectral analyses will allow detailed analyses of possible relationships between chromosomal aberrations and mechanisms of carcinogenesis.
